Green Infrastructure and Urban Biodiversity for Sustainable Urban Development and the Green Economy

Green Infrastructure and Urban Biodiversity for Sustainable Urban Development and the Green Economy (GREEN SURGE) is a EU-funded project from November 2013 until October 2017. 24 research teams from 11 countries collaborate in the GREEN SURGE project.

GREEN SURGE investigates the relationships between urban green infrastructure (e.g., parks, forests, green roofs), biodiversity and green economy in the urban space. Case study cities include Bari (Italy), Berlin (Germany), Edinburgh (Great Britain), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Malmö (Sweden).

The project focuses on land-use conflicts, climate change adaptation, demographic changes and human health. GREEN SURGE seeks to identify the potential of urban green infrastructure for the environment and the society.
