Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences - Geography Department

The Adlershof Campus

The location of the Geography Department on the "Adlershof Campus for Science, Economy and Media" in south-eastern Berlin allows the institute to link up with other HU institutes and major research institutions such as the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). This interconnectivity provides additional incentives for work at the department.

Adlershof science campus was completed in 2003. It houses six institutes: Geography, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology, with altogether 6,300 students, 110 professors and 720 other employees work on the campus.

At the Adlershof Campus Science meets economy and media. Besides the synergies to be generated from sharing the extensive infrastructure – academic teaching benefits from the potential links to scientific application.

Establishing the university at Adlershof has aimed to lend a new quality to the field of academic education, which will be shaped by the close proximity to professional practice, the pioneer spirit and entrepreneurial thinking. Students may get in touch here with businesses and research institutes and establish direct contacts to potential employers. One good example is the newly built library and communication centre "Erwin Schrödinger Zentrum" which provides an excellent infrastructure for research and business – and as an interface between the academic world and the economy.
