Battlefields and beyond: Leveraging Earth Observations to monitor war impacts
Wars are destructive, with both direct and indirect impacts that make it challenging to fully monitor their consequences. Recent advancements in remote sensing provide transformative opportunities for timely monitoring in conflict zones and beyond. In this presentation, I will highlight state-of-the-art remote sensing approaches for tracking war-related damages, emphasizing their effects on land systems. I will showcase recent studies from Chechnya, Syria, and the Gaza Strip that integrate multi-sensor data to monitor the immediate and long-term impacts of war across various scales.
