Geographisches Kolloquium

Andreas Marx
UFZ

Dürren in Deutschland

English version below.

Liebe Geograph*innen,

Dear geographers,

just in time for COP26 in Glasgow, on 2 Nov, 15h, Andreas Marx from the Env. Res. Center in Leipzig will discuss "Droughts in Germany" and the German Drought Monitor (https://www.ufz.de/index.php?en=37937) in the Geographic Colloquium at HU. Europe suffered from the extreme droughts since 2018. And drought is not just a subjective impression, but relates to facts and figures, with specifically strong impacts in NE-Germany.

Dr. Marx is the head scientist behind the German Drought Monitor and will not only provide insights into ongoing research, but also explain how drought monitoring is tackled systematically and scientifically. He will specifically focus on the impacts of droughts on water provision (see attached).

The presentation and discussion will provide ample synergies with ongoing research at HU Geography and the IRI THESys (https://www.iri-thesys.org/), including the inter- and transdisciplinary project "CliWaC - Climate and Water under Change" that will commence in 2022 (https://www.cliwac.de/en/forschung/index.html). The presentation will be in German with slides in English. Questions in English are welcome, of course."
