Responses of Glaciers, Biosphere and Hydrology to Climate Variability and Climate Change across the Southern Andes

(GABY-VASA)

Automatic weather station at the edge of the Schiaparelli glacier in the Cordillera Darwin below Monte Sarmiento in Chile

GABY-VASA is a joint and meanwhile finalised project of the University of Magallanes (Punta Arenas), the Instituto Antártico Chileno (INACH, Chile), the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, the RWTH Aachen and the HU Berlin on dendrochronology, climatology and glaciology in Southern Patagonia and the Cordillera Darwin. The project investigated the climate impact on the climatic surface energy and mass balance of two glaciers in southern Chile (Patagonia) and on surrounding forest ecosystems.
