Profile

The working group on ‘Applied Geography and Spatial Planning’ deals with geographical issues from a practical perspective. It focuses on strategies and instruments of spatial planning and space-related policies. It likewise explores the interface between the production of geographical knowledge and its application in society, economy, administration and politics as well as in professional fields that deal with geographical problems. As regards teaching, the working group aims at linking education and practice. Thereby a major focus is given to topics of spatial planning and urban and regional development.

  • Social- cultural milieu and potentials of spatial development
  • Migration and urban development
  • Urban conflicts and participation
  • Geography as profession
