About me

I'm Christian Levers, 29 years old, born and raised in Duisburg, in the heart of the Ruhr Metropolitan Region. After finishing my Abitur at Franz-Haniel-Gymnasium in Duisburg (and doing social service), I decided to study what interested me the most during my high school time: Geography. Ever since I am asked: What do you do with geography? Well, since I cannot answer this question with a short sentence, I always start explaining what and why I do what I am doing...and this can take quite some time.

I am concerned about the speed and intensity of how we transform our natural environment in human-dominated areas. I am concerned that we do not alter our consumption habits, although we have the knowledge where our current customs will lead us to. My motivation is to contribute a little piece to the progress of realising sustainable land use practices in the face of a growing world population. To be able to understand the processes behind land use decisions, it is inevitable to understand natural and anthropogenic processes. And this is the point, where my research starts...

What I do in my free time

I like to spend as much time as possible being outside...hiking, playing beachvolleyball, and football. During the winter, I enjoy a match of badminton and practicing kickboxing. One of my biggest passions is travelling and couchsurfing along the way. I love to meet people with different backgrounds and stories to tell.
